I Never Knew You

I'm back from the Poconos, which was...aight. lol I'm not going to lie, the chow was on point but there needed to be more on the agenda. The booze and cig's were on full so that kept me entertained. The photo above is from Locust Lake where we stayed. It may look nice but the water was Coca-Cola brown and was uber creepy to swim in...Shots ringing out to the crew that made it out, we had a good time nonetheless.

Moving along, since we last spoke I've listened to Wiley's and Skepta's new albums which both dropped on the same day, on some 50 vs KanYe flex. And to be honest, Race Against Time is way more cohesive and could be his strongest to date, but no offense to Skeppy! Stand out track on Wiley's new album has got to be "Time Flies By," produced by up and comer Deeco. He's got the auto-tune chorus, he's keeping it gully with the wordplay, and not to mention the beat sounds like DJ Khaled and Flying Lotus were sat at the buttons. The stand out track on Microphone Champion is "Lush" which features fellow Brit Jay Sean, who's currently signed to Cash Money.

And now that I've got that outta my system, I'm proud to announce that one of my favorite rappers, Cage, has finished the video for the first single off of his third studio album Depart From Me, which is set to drop early July. The video was produced by Transformers star, Shia Labouf, and shouldn't be a surprise to die-hard fans because the pair have been close friends for some time now (click me). The song is essentially about wanting something that you can't have, translated from the thick muck of Cage's amazingly dark vocabulary. I think what Shia did for the video embodies this concept to a T. Take a look for yourself :)

That's about it, follow me and tiger on twitter. I'll be in the Pocono's this weekend so PA stand up!

Moving On Up...

Exhibit A:

My car (Nola) moving a $5 desk to the new Dope Peddle Headquarters. I was so psyched when I found out that this desk was only $5! $5! I could of bought a footlong from Subway with that yo! Anyway the desk has a permanent residence now and I couldn't be more ecstatic about it ;)

Exhibit B:

Squirtle. Upon arriving in Rochester to handle some business (like a BOSS), I ran into this awesome stencil, in the suburbs of all places! Thats pretty gangster if you ask me, next thing you know the burbs'll be sprayed up with all 5000 fire type, electricity type, magnetic type, and psychic type Pokemon. You already know me and Squirtle are down for whatever...bring it!

Exhibit C:

My pair of Diplo tickets from May 7th...and OMDz was that an amazing show. He is one of the DJ gods in my book. Too bad Tiger's ass had to skate back to the dorms for the most heinous of gayness, he missed out on an event that comes around Buffalo once every 4 years...kinda like the Olympics.

Other than that, I'm back in Buffalo and my summer has consisted of an endless search for a job in Buffalo, stretching my money longer than an obese persons stretch marks, and the all around faggotry that Big Neez insists on pulling. I'm supposed to be filling out applications as I type, so on that note I'll leave you with this awesome post :)

Apple Twisted Gin & Orange Juice

My quest for furniture is at a stand still right now because I've made ABSOLUTLEY no effort to try to look here in the Roc.

But as I suck down Marb lights and guzzle down my ghetto Fruit Punch, I must admit that being back home is better than staying in Buffalo where there's fuck all to do.

Since I've been back I've reconnected with mi gente, rocked an awesome all white party at Venu, and not to mention the weather has been amazing! This has been a pretty decent start to my Summer. Look out for more posts regarding crankdat.parties this summer as well as updates on new music, gear, anything interesting.

I knew for some reason this would be a short post, so on that note have a good night and if you're in Rochester tonight the place to be is LUX!

berxxx xoxo

Chemistry Like Apple and Cinnamon

The Japanese-American multi-talented songstress Utada Hikaru made her US mainstream debut on the Island Def Jam Music Group May 12th with her album, "This is the One."

The album is definitely a huge jump from the J-Pop she's known for in Asia, but it also reveals that she is fit to compete with the likes of artists like Cassie, Rihanna, and Ciara. Its definitely a mature record we she covers hot topics including: cheating on her boyfriend, giving up that good sex, being a strong independent woman, and being original, fly, and sexy; it pretty much could easily be compared to any recent female American Pop/R&B album.

With the success of foreign acts like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, and Estelle, breaking into the American mainstream is seeming to be more of a common thing within the past two-three years. Each of the said artists have a specific genre associated with them in their homelands; Soul, Ska, R&B/Hip Hop, Pop. Utada, being tied to the string of Pop in Japan, may have a mixed result in the way the Mainstream audience will accept her. However, as an artist she is quite versatile and this could be her key to staying afloat in the mess that is the American top-40.

Utada has a growing fanbase in the States due to her work on the intro songs of each of the Kingdom Hearts video games by Squaresoft and other J-Pop releases. This could also play a big part in her American reception, but we'll have to wait for the final numbers to play out.

I'm really feeling this record, and I'm kind of proud to have some knowledge of Utada before she dropped the record, but now that it has, the skys the limit for brilliant artist.

The first single off of her album is entitled,"Come Back To Me." Here's the YouTube link for the song (unfortunately we couldn't embed the video but we posted the link). Its a ballad with a smooth beat laced together by her amazing voice. I hope you enjoy it :)
